You probably heard about Bali somwhere. Maybe as a great touristic region or in the news talking about latest volcano eruption of Bali. However, you don’t really know where is Bali located?

Where is Bali Located?

Bali is one of the Indonesian islands. It is located between Java and Lombok (two other big islands of Indonesia).

Bali lies over 3.2 km (2 miles) east of Java. It is approximately 8 degrees south of the equator. The land area is5,632 sq km (2,174 sq miles), located exactly in (08° 39′ S, 115° 13′ E) with:

  • Horizontal Width: 54.08 miles (87.03 km) from Gilimanuk east to Catur
  • Vertical Length: 62.15 miles (100.02 km) from Yeh Sanih south to Sanur

The Bali Strait separates Bali and Java. The island is surrounded by coral reefs. Beaches in the south tend to have white sand while those in the north and west have black sand.

The distance between Bali and the center of Australia is about 2730 km.

Generally yes. Millions of tourists visit Bali from all over the world trouble free. However there are some risks that you should be aware of before you visit Bali:

Natural risk

The island’s central mountains include several peaks (more than 3,000 meters in elevation). The highest mount is Agung, standing at 10,328 ft. (3,148 m).

Bali’s volcanic nature has contributed to its exceptional fertility and its tall mountain ranges provide the high rainfall that supports the highly productive agriculture sector. South of the mountains is a broad, steadily descending area where most of Bali’s large rice crop is grown.

The northern side of the mountains slopes more steeply to the sea and is the main coffee producing area along with rice, vegetables and cattle.

Like any attractive tourism location, Bali attract also scammers who tries to always find new way to steal money from you. However the caracteristic of scammers in Bali is they are not aggressive. Thus, you just have to be aware of Bali scams in order to stay away from them.

How to go to Bali?

If you wonder how you can get to Bali from Europe, United Stats or even Australia. You should know that the island of Bali has an Airport called Ngurah Rai International Airport also known as Denpasar airport (IATA code: DPS). However, getting to this airport directly may be a little bit expensive (especially if you’re coming from Europe). So what you can do is to first go to Jakarta, the capital of Indonesia, then you go to Denpasar airport throught a domestic fly.

The cost of domestic fly between Jakarta and Bali is around $60 – $200. Generally the quality of those flies are not so good. But that’s okay, as the fly between the two locations isn’t that long.

Getting to Bali from a nearby island

If you’re already in a close Island of Indonesia and want to get to Bali. You should first know that every big Island should have at least one airport. So if you’re planning to go for, example, from Lombok to Bali or from Bali to Lombok. There’s great chance that you can get there flying.

But a better solution would be fast boats. With Fast boat you travel with lower price and have more fun on the road. If you can support the hot sun, you get to the roof of the boat and enjoy fresh air, good music and nice view. If you’re lucky enough you can even see some dolphins on the road. The best part is the price. It could be much lower.

To give you an example I was picked up from my hotel, going to Padang bai (by bus), then I get to the fast boat direction Gili islands. After few days I get back through the boat to Padang bai, then to Ubud on the bus to my new hotel. All this for only 430 000 Rupiah (about $30).

In Spite of being in the same country, there is a difference of time between Jakarta and Bali. So Bali is one hour ahead. Thus, you should keep this in mind for your checking or any appointment you can have.

Generally If you’re leaving in United States or any European country, the difference of time between you and Indonesia should be considerable. To give you an example the difference of time between Jakarta and Paris is 6 hours. This is an important factor to consider while planning your activities. Thus, try to give yourself a day or two for having rest, chilling and sleeping. This will for sure help you to be ready and more active for the rest of you vacations.

If I can give you a last advice about prices, always try to look on different locations, search over the internet and be confident when negociating. Prices in Bali and Indonesia in general can vary a lot. Thanks to a good negociation you can sometimes divide the initial price by three!
